Nature Village is a multidisciplinary group consisting of University Village residents, UC Berkeley students, staff, campus sustainability groups, and volunteers. Our mission is to create community around sustainable living at University Village. Through our work, we promote environmental education and encourage conservation with regards to energy, water, and waste.
Nature Village was envisioned in the spring of 2011 when University Village resident Lludmila Moran became increasingly aware that there was no sustainability program at UV. She organized a multicultural group of residents, UC Berkeley students, staff, campus sustainability groups, and non-profit organizations in fall 2011. Together, they founded Nature Village with the following goals:
Reduce the environmental impact of University Village.
Improve the knowledge and lifestyle practices of residents in relation to resource management, including management of water, energy, natural gas, and solid waste.
Educate children and families on various environmental issues and best sustainability practices.
Create a stronger sense of community and life experience at University Village through active participation in environmental programs and activities.
In spring 2012, Nature Village began outreach and fundraising, and received its first grant from The Green Initiative Fund.Nature Village has received a total of four grants from TGIF:
